Dedrique Taylor, Program Building

Guest: Dedrique Taylor, Cal State Fullerton Basketball Head Coach

In this week’s basketball coaching conversation, Cal State Fullerton head coach Dedrique Taylor joins the podcast to discuss the slow build reality of most college programs. Taylor has built Cal State Fullerton into a program with national and league significance that has achieved many first in program history. He explains his philosophy on culture, style of play and the brilliance of James Harden, who he helped recruit and coach at Arizona State.

Taylor led the 2017-18 squad to a Big West Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007-08 and only the third time in program history. In 2018-19, the Titans made it to the Big West Tournament Final for the second straight year, the first time that has been accomplished in program history. Fullerton did earn its third consecutive postseason berth, also a program first, as the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. In 2016-17 he led the team to the postseason for the first time in program history since the 2011-12 season. The Titans hosted Weber State in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, also marking the first time in school history that the team hosted a postseason game.
